Anat Cohen has been a catalyst for re-assertion of the clarinet in jazz and world music from the 2000s to the present. Cohen has recorded albums featuring straight-ahead jazz, duos with guitar and piano, Brazilian rhythms, and chamber pieces. Most consistent about her style is the sheer technique she achieves on the instrument, the joyful interplay she generates with her groups, and at-times melancholy mood spun out of klezmer and eastern European scales and ornamentations. The song "Paco" is off her 2024 album Quartetinho: Bloom. Written by her guitarist Tal Mashiach, "Paco" stands out for the unique, blended timbre from the warm, complementary sounds of the guitar, piano and clarinet and for the gracefully shifting pulse. One of her prettiest pieces.
