About the Album

After recording a pair of widely acclaimed collaborations with Nikki Giovanni, tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson is now paying tribute to another American icon: Bob Dylan. The result is this powerful and unique album which reimagines the Dylan catalog as jazz standards. Pianist Jeremy Manasia, bassist Isaac Levine, drummer Ryan Sands, and guest vocalists Lisa Fischer and Nicole Zuraitis give the material a fresh and revealing sound. One of the most unlikely song candidates was Dylan’s electric folk/rock breakthrough “Like a Rolling Stone.” While the original oozed with attitude, Javon reinvents it as an inspiring gospel-infused tenor workout.
