The 2026 German Jazz Prize nominees have been announced and by chance it happens one of the woodwind nominees is featured in this episode: saxophonist Peter Ehwald, whose music has been played many times on OMJ. In this show, he's featured leading his Tee Trio recorded live at Berlin's B-Flat Club and in duet performance with the legendary drummer, Bill Elgart. As is usually the case, there are European groups making their debuts: the Ragini Trio from Belgium, pianist Pierpaolo Zenni from Italy, the fiery Sheen Trio from Berlin, Italy's Xangorchestra. There are also a handful of "tributes" as well: saxophonist Muriel Grossmann's look into the music of McCoy Tyner and the Grateful Dead, Kahil El'Zabar's Ehtnic Heritage Ensemble's track for AACM icon Kelan Philip Cohran, French bassist Stéphane Kerecki's "Liberation Songs" which honours the music of Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, and my own goodbye to radio legend Bob Rogers, the man who had the brilliant idea to start a 24/7 streaming jazz station with no adsthe long-running taintradio.orgto which I was a humble contributor for twelve years.
