David Luca

Currently a Jazz Piano student at the Maastricht Conservatory and a Music Pedagogy student at the 'Gheorghe Dima' National Academy of Music, I am a pianist and composer driven by a constant search for authentic expression.

My journey has been unconventional. Originally, I prepared for a career in Computer Science (graduating from the 'George Coșbuc' National College, German mother tongue section), but I soon realized that only music offered me true spiritual fulfillment. Today, I translate that analytical background into what critics describe as a 'torrential' approach to the keyboard, where I blend complex harmonies with deeply emotional storytelling.

My artistic development has been shaped by prestigious programs such as the Amsterdam Conservatory (CvA) Keep an Eye Summer Jazz, Jazz Workshop 2023 organized by the University of Erlangen, International Jazzwerstatt Saarwellingen and the Jazz Piano Composition - Improvisation Program 2022 organized by the Cluj National Academy of Music "Gheorghe Dima"and the International Czech Jazz Workshop Prague. I’ve had the privilege of learning from international jazz luminaries, including Frank Giebels, Barry Green, Mike Roelofs, and Billy Test, whose mentorship has been vital to my growth.

These influences have culminated in several milestones that I am deeply proud of, including the Grand Prize at The Jazz Maastricht Awards 2026, the Jury Special Mention at the Jazz in the Park Competition 2024, and the 1st Prize at Iași Jazz Fest for both composition and performance over several consecutive years, the Festival Trophy - Napocensis Jazz Competition and many more.

I am currently active in the European jazz scene through various projects, from the Big Band Orchestravian to my personal ensembles—the David Luca Quartet and the Maastricht Jazz Collective. Whether performing my own compositions like "Light in the Desert" and "Tagura" or exploring the infinite freedom of improvisation, my goal is always to create unique soundscapes that resonate with the listener.
