Book Signing and Acoustic Performance at Belvidere Books in New Jersey

Acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer B.D. Lenz is set to release his new book, And the Crowd Goes Mild, on May 1. Blending humor, insight, and real-world experience from a life spent onstage and on the road, the book offers an entertaining and honest look at the realities of working as a musician today.

To celebrate the release, Lenz will host a special book signing event on May 1 from 7:00–9:00 PM at Belvidere Books in Belvidere, NJ. The evening will feature a live acoustic performance, giving attendees a chance to experience Lenz’s music up close in an intimate setting.

And the Crowd Goes Mild dives into the highs, lows, and in-betweens of a career in music—from unforgettable gigs to less-than-glamorous moments—all delivered with Lenz’s signature wit and perspective. The book is a must-read for musicians, music fans, and anyone curious about what really happens behind the scenes.

“I wanted to write something that’s honest about this life,” says Lenz. “It’s not all sold-out shows and standing ovations—but it’s still a great ride.”

About B.D. Lenz

The New York Times says of guitarist B.D. Lenz, “part of the reason for his accessibility is that he not only fuses jazz and rock, he complements it with the warm chords of funk, soul, and rhythm and blues." He has built an international following with his signature blend of contemporary jazz, fusion, and groove-based improvisation. A seasoned performer, Lenz has released over a dozen recordings as a leader and has collaborated with such musical luminaries as Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Will Lee, and Mark Egan.

Whether playing festivals, intimate clubs, or at prestigious venues, Lenz brings a rare combination of technical command, emotional depth, and audience connection. His music has been featured on hundreds of TV and film placements worldwide including Breaking Bad, Young Sheldon, Catfish, and Chicago Fire.

Originally from New Jersey, Lenz tours extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and the UK—both as a solo artist and with his long-running trio. When he’s not on the road, this Godin-endorsed guitarist composes for Gramoscope Music and writes for All About Jazz, where his columns Chats with Cats and Mind Your Business offer an insider’s perspective on the music industry.
