Vienna-based vocalist Patricia Moreno presents Volver, a deeply personal album exploring identity, heritage, and the expressive power of the human voice. Produced by David Chesky for his New York-based label The Audiophile Society, the album blends Moreno’s diverse background in jazz, Latin American traditions, and classical influences within an intimate, chamber-like setting.

Born in Austria with Venezuelan roots, Moreno grew up immersed in both European and Latin American musical cultures. After shifting from classical violin to vocal jazz, she studied at MUK Vienna and Berklee College of Music, developing a distinctive voice shaped by mentors such as Bobby McFerrin, Joey Blake, and Rhiannon. A Global Music Award winner, she has established herself both as a performer and educator, serving as a Senior Lecturer at the Mozarteum Salzburg and as Senior Artist for Pop Vocals at the Gustav Mahler Private University.

At its core, Volver reflects a process of reconnection, both musically and personally. After years of exploring contemporary jazz and fusion, Moreno turns back toward the sounds of her heritage, drawing inspiration from Venezuelan folk traditions, the tangos of Carlos Gardel, and the rhythmic vitality of David Chesky’s Chorinhos. The project began with a simple home recording of Moreno and her father, guitarist Arnoldo Moreno, performing one of Chesky’s pieces. That moment sparked a collaboration that led to this recording.

Captured in Vienna at RPM Studios, the album features Moreno’s voice alongside two guitars, her father and Uruguayan guitarist Ignacio Giovanetti. The stripped-down format creates a transparent sound world where nuance, breath, and human presence remain exposed. “The voice is the most human instrument,” Moreno reflects. “This project embraces that vulnerability instead of hiding it.

Despite being based on different continents, Moreno and Chesky developed the project through a shared artistic trust and openness. The result is a record shaped by instinct and honesty, where phrasing, improvisation, and storytelling unfold naturally.

Volver, Spanish for “to return”, becomes a quiet but powerful statement: a return to roots, to simplicity, and to emotional truth. In an era of polish and precision, Patricia Moreno offers something more intimate and enduring, music that breathes, resonates, and reveals.
