Libor Smoldas
Libor Šmoldas from Prague is widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading jazz guitarists. Critics praise his smooth, effortless, and melodic approach, as well as his genuine passion for jazz and for connecting with his audience.
He has worked, toured, and recorded with international stars such as James Morrison, Bobby Watson, Jon Faddis, George Mraz, Jeff Ballard, Adam Nussbaum, Gregory Hutchinson, Sam Yahel, and Brian Charette.
Libor performs at some of the world’s most prestigious jazz venues, including Ronnie Scott’s and Pizza Express in London, Smalls and Iridium in New York City, B‑Flat in Berlin, Le Duc des Lombards in Paris, Porgy & Bess in Vienna, and the Recital Centre in Melbourne, as well as numerous Blue Notes and Birdlands worldwide. He regularly performs in Australia, the United States, most European countries, and Japan.
He has released twelve albums as a leader—his latest, Sorry, Miles!, came out in 2026—and many more as a sideman. His recordings range from solo guitar projects to large ensembles, covering a wide variety of jazz styles including his own original compositions. While firmly rooted in straight-ahead jazz and bebop, his playing also embraces modern jazz, Brazilian music, blues, funk, soul jazz, and beyond.
Libor is recognized as one of the leading jazz musicians in the Czech Republic and a prominent ambassador of Czech jazz, performing on both European and international stages.

Darren Heinrich: Riddle Diddle: The Prague Sessions
by Karan Khosla
Darren Heinrich's Riddle Diddle: The Prague Sessions is an organ trio record rooted in swing and outstanding musicianship. The compositions are fresh, the arrangements are purposeful, and the performances show a band that understands how to use jazz language to push the boundaries of the classic organ/guitar/drums setup while keeping the music grounded and direct. Wherever You Go" opens the album with a graceful sense of balance. The tune is a lyrical 3/4 with a strong AABA form, ...

by Chris Mosey
Libor Smoldas is one of the best jazz guitarists the Czech Republic has produced in recent years. He plays extremely fluent, straight ahead music in the Jim Hall tradition, with overtones of Kenny Burrell. He is more relaxed, less intense than his contemporary, David Doruzka, best known of the current crop of Czech jazz guitarists. Smoldas smiles a lot when he plays. On graduating from the Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, unlike Doruzka, ...

by Dan Bilawsky
Czech guitarist Libor Smoldas doesn't buy into the idea that music is simply meant to be a product for commerce. While Smoldas peddles some of his recorded wares like the rest of the performing musicians out there, his third album--Live At Jazz Dock--is actually free for the taking for anybody who wants to visit his website and download it. His self-admitted goal is simply to get the music to the widest audience possible," and this would seem to be the ...

by Dan Bilawsky
Guitarist Libor Šmoldas is a known entity within the Prague jazz scene, but In New York On Time should help him to significantly expand his fan base beyond the borders of the Czech Republic. While Šmoldas has largely worked with Czech musicians in a variety of groups, including his trio and quartet which focus on his music, the Organic Quartet and vocalist Zeurítia's Brazilian project, he used a recent visit to New York to record with some of the finest ...
