Davide Sgarra
Davide Sgarra is an Italian jazz clarinetist and saxophonist based in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Varese in 2000, he began performing publicly as a teenager in the Lombardy region, winning first place at national music competitions before pursuing conservatory studies at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in the Netherlands and a Master of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
Since arriving in the United States, Sgarra has become a sought-after presence on the New York jazz scene, performing with David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band at Birdland Jazz Club, Terry Waldo's Gotham City Band at Arthur's Tavern, and Gordon Webster's ensemble at swing festivals across North America. He has appeared at Dizzy's Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Perelman Performing Arts Center, and on four U.S. national tours with the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra. In Europe, he performed as a featured soloist with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, alongside pianist Rob van Bavel at the Hague Marriott Hotel, and toured internationally with the Roaring Cats Jazz Band across the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, and Romania.
Sgarra is credited as clarinetist on recordings by Tristan Guillaume (Resolution Records) and Stefano Gullo (SinfolliaLabel). His playing has been featured in VareseNews, De Haagse Tijden, La Prealpina, and Jazz Lives, and a 2026 Instagram Reel of his street performance reached over 700,000 views.
