Andrei Marian
Andrei Marian is a vibraphonist, composer, and improviser from Chișinău, Moldova, whose work explores the intersection of contemporary jazz and free improvisation. His music is characterized by textural sensitivity, fluid forms, and a focus on interaction in small-ensemble settings.
He began his musical journey in Moldova and later continued his studies in Belgium at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, where he worked with internationally recognized musicians and absorbed the influence of the European improvised music scene. This experience played a defining role in shaping his artistic voice and approach to collective playing.
As a bandleader, Marian develops projects that place the vibraphone at the center of modern trios, emphasizing dialogue, contrast, and evolving structures. His recent self-released EP Triptology, Volume One reflects these ideas, combining dynamic range, nuanced interplay, and subtle references to his time in Antwerp and the impact of Belgian musical aesthetics.
He is currently preparing new releases and plans to return to Belgium to continue his artistic development.
