Perfect No°3 is the final chapter of The Trilogy of Scents by composer and trumpeter Jacques Kuba Séguin. The third element of the olfactory pyramid is what we call the base notes, or earth notes. It is the essence of the perfume—the part that clings to the skin and remains imprinted in objects as well as in the soul. I could only envision this third chapter with a symphony orchestra, composing works with movements that intertwine and respond to one another.

The orchestra, under the direction of conductor Alain Trudel, accompanies the jazz quartet. Some pieces echo the first two chapters and expand more fully with the orchestra, while others evoke memories weighted with the depth and wisdom of later life. It was necessary to bring together a great number of voices to reflect all these memories and life moments, in order to conclude this trilogy.
