Dominic Lash
Born:
Dominic Lash is a freely improvising double bassist and (more recently) guitarist, although his activities also range much more widely. He first became known internationally for his work with The Convergence Quartet (with Taylor Ho Bynum, Harris Eisenstadt and Alexander Hawkins). He has performed with musicians such as Tony Conrad, Joe Morris, Evan Parker and Steve Reid. Currently based in Cambridge, his most regular collaborators include John Butcher, Angharad Davies, Matthew Grigg, Emil Karlsen, N.O. Moore, Heather Roche, Mark Sanders, Pat Thomas and Alex Ward. He has a longstanding interest in the music of Anthony Braxton, and is a member of Pat Thomas's group The Locals (recasting Braxton's music in funk style) as well as leading his own explorations of Braxton's music with the quintet Kelvin (with Charlotte Keeffe, Andrew Lisle, Heather Roche, and Huw Williams).
Pat Thomas, Dominic Lash, Tony Orrell: Lifeline
by John Sharpe
New bottles, same wine? On Lifeline, Pat Thomas, Dominic Lash and Tony Orrell, who operate under the moniker Bley School with acoustic instruments, convene in the studio with electronics. Bley School: Where?

Punningly recalling beloved British children's TV programme Play School, the name Bley School neatly encapsulates what is afoot on this album, representing an open-minded and irreverent fondness for tunes, especially those associated with the groundbreaking Canadian pianist Paul Bley. Responsible for this is the threesome of pianist Pat Thomas, bassist Dominic Lash and drummer Tony Orrell. ...

From the 200 or so discs that I heard in 2024, here are the ten new issues and three gems saved from obscurity, which gave me the most pleasure. As always these selections are entirely subjective, and take no account of the many other albums which I would no doubt have loved if I had heard ...

John Butcher / Pat Thomas / Dominic Lash / Steve Noble: Fathom
by John Sharpe
Finely judged sounds studded in space. Bursts of incipient rhythm. Wafts of fire music energy. Those are just some of the fruitful products of the British foursome of saxophonist John Butcher, pianist Pat Thomas, bassist Dominic Lash and drummer Steve Noble. A spider's web of alliances connects them, notably tangled given their time on the promiscuous ...
Christoph Gallio, Dominic Lash, Mark Sanders: Live at Café Oto London

Swiss saxophonist Christoph Gallio has been playing with the trio DAY & TAXI for over three decades during which time he has been the only ever-present member, and the trio has released twelve albums. Early in July 2022, Gallio arrived in London at the beginning of a six-month sabbatical stay at the London Atelier of the ...
