Morgan Turner
Morgan Turner is a Chicago based bassist and composer whose music blends lyrical composition, collective improvisation, and modern jazz traditions. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Mark Turner and Kurt Rosenwinkel, Turner creates music that explores connection, vulnerability, and the spaces between certainty and change.
Her debut album, Liminal Spaces, features eight original compositions alongside a reimagining of Sam Rivers’s "Cyclic Episode," performed by a quartet featuring Arman Sangalang (saxophone), Kyle Paul (guitar), Paul Barrilles (drums), and Turner on bass. Recorded live in the room at Pro Musica and mixed and mastered by Ken Christensen, the album captures the electric energy and conversational interplay of the ensemble.
With Liminal Spaces, Turner introduces a distinctive compositional voice while documenting a pivotal season of transition while searching for where she belongs within the contemporary jazz community.
