Eddie Reyes, Composer/Guitarist/Pianist composes, performs and produces music in a wide variety of genres including Film, Television, Commercials, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Orchestral, Pop, Rock.
He has written music and lyrics for TESLA, AN ELEKTRICAL SPECTACLE, a musical inspired by the life of the great inventor Nikola Tesla, which is slated for its first regional production shortly. His other original theatre work includes A BEATING HEART, his musical adaptation of the Oscar Wilde classic THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, THE CIRCUS OF DR. LAO (optioned for Broadway), ESPERANZA (an original), songs for musical adaptations of ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, DOUBLE INDEMNITY, and THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY as well as many individual songs and special material for cabaret artists.
In the film/TV scoring realm, he has contributed music for a few of legendary writer David Milch’s HBO projects, DEADWOOD and JOHN FROM CINCINATTI. Also showcasing his work is the recent feature film THE PAINTING. In the very early days of his musical pursuits in NYC he composed a large part of the musical underscore for the Academy Award nominated film BLUE VELVET in which his orchestral and jazz writing is featured. Other film work includes the scores to MISSING YOU, MYRON’S MOVIE, THE CHAIR, SHELL SHOCK, and THE FIRES WITHIN (for Showtime). His music was heard as the television logo for PBS “Great Performances” for many years, as well as the IMAX film logo for NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC.
Reyes is a seasoned performer on guitar and piano, and also specializes in flamenco guitar. He composed and produced the world jazz CD, LOST WORLD, utilizing percussion instruments used in sacred ceremonies, with a compositional sensibility derived from jazz and classical worlds along with a healthy dose of Flamenco inspiration. LOST WORLD is a world beat blend of Afro-Caribbean-Flamenco, a jazz cultivated in the streets of New York, Miami and Los Angeles, with textures drawn from the Middle East, the Balkans, India, and the Celtic highlands.
Reyes is a versatile composer, orchestrator, guitarist and pianist who has worked on numerous commercials and trailers. One assignment had him composing, orchestrating, and conducting a 65 piece orchestra for THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD, while at the same time another had him laying down grunge and acoustic guitar textures and soaring electric leads for the kung fu movie, CHINA STRIKE FORCE, starring Coolio. He recently won a Telly Award for his music on BLUE PLANET RUN. He also won a CLIO AWARD for the Coca-Cola spot “CONTRAPTION”.
