Sherry Rubel

Creative Media Liaison, International Photographer, and Activist

About Me

I didn’t just study the arts; I was raised within them. Growing up in a household defined by creative service, my foundation was built on the dual pillars of technical craft and community impact. While my father mentored me in the “alchemy” of the darkroom and theatre, my mother pioneered the business of creativity— running arts-based non-profits, immersive camps, and educational programs. This upbringing gave me a “360-degree” perspective: I understand the grit of the creator, the vision of the educator, and the strategy of the curator. Known for my documentary, fashion, live music, and theatrical work, my career is defined by a commitment to storytelling, whether through intimate artist portraits or long-term social advocacy projects. Today, I’ve evolved beyond the lens to work as a Creative Media Liaison, building international bridges for talent between New Jersey, New York, and Mexico. I use photography and interviews to ‘connect the dots’ for artists and musicians— skipping through the noise of the world to capture their true authenticity and ensuring their voices are seen, heard, and valued. As an activist who has published arts magazines and organized events, art is my life.

My Jazz Story

"Jazz has been the backdrop of my life since I was six, many thanks to Ernie Scott. I spent ten years under his wing at my mom’s Creative and Performing Arts camp where he taught me piano and singing. In addition to his long residency at Windows on the World, he led the Ernie Scott Trio, bringing a polished, soulful jazz style to iconic rooms like The Plaza. He also played at Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick; I grew up there, spending much time in the wings with my dad while he took the PR photos for the shows. Ernie brought that professional soul from Broadway and Windows on the World back home to me. He didn't just teach me notes; he taught me that jazz is a living, breathing spirit of heart and improvisation that has stayed with me ever since."
