About the Album
The Cafe Society presents a greasy, hard-swinging twist on the Adderley/Lewis classic - including the rare Shirley Horn verse that Nancy & Cannonball omitted. The Café Society's quintet recorded this in a single live take in NYC, featuring a pianist who's one degree of separation from the source material: Rick Germanson, a member of The Cannonball Legacy Band with Adderley's original drummer Louis Hayes. Leaders Adams & Flynn deliver their signature dynamic interplay, while the rest of the first-call ensemble deepens the lineage: bassist Jim Greene has worked with Art Farmer & John Hicks, and drummer Joe Strasser brings hard bop chops via George Coleman & Harold Mabern. Mixed/mastered by 4x Grammy winner Dave Darlington (Samara Joy, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter).
