Born in Chicago and raised in Shanghai, China, I live in New York City pursuing my dream of becoming a professional musician.
About Me
I was born in Chicago and I grew up in Shanghai, China. Since the age of six, I have been taking piano lessons and studying music. My training began with Classical piano. I loved playing the music of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, and Bach. After 10 years of Classical training, I became fascinated by jazz and improvisational music. Soon, I began studying that style of music, and another six years later, I am currently living in New York City to pursue my dream in being a professional jazz pianist and composer who will one day travel the world to perform his music. In May 2024, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Jazz Composition, and I am currently doing a Master's in Jazz Studies at New York University. I have performed at the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club, and various venues in the city with other ensembles and artists. On top of that, I currently lead my own piano trio, the Kevin Du Trio, performing our original music around NYC. Jazz music has fascinated me since the first time I sat in a venue and watched as a pianist improvised with utmost joy and freedom in front of my eyes, and now I have combined my love for this music with my passion for writing, and am thrilled to be able to share my work on All About Jazz.
