About the Album

When Even Goes East (Self Produced, 2026)

New album newly released and climbing the charts and with great reviews! When Even Goes East, the 8th recording from the Dave Wilson Quartet, (our first studio album since the 2015 Grammy nominated There Was Never); there are ten tracks in all, a compilation of four original songs penned by Dave, and six unique, compelling, and heartfelt arrangements of some of our favorite “Pop” music “New” standards, including These Days (Jackson Browne), Eyes of the World (Grateful Dead), Adios (Jimmy Webb), The Fool on the Hill (Beatles), Fire (Jimi Hendrix), Wichita Lineman (Jimmy Webb)

Recorded with an all-star rhythm section comprised of colleagues, residents of the Pocono, PA region who have played around the world and perform regularly in New York City. Joined by the legendary LA percussionist Lenny Castro (Toto, Eric Clapton, John Mayer)) on five selections.

Dave Wilson - tenor and soprano saxophones

Jesse Green - piano

Evan Gregor - bass

Daniel Gonzales - drums

Special Guest, Lenny Castro-percussion; appearing on tracks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

Acknowledgements:

Hats off to the incredible rhythm section of Jesse Green, Evan Gregor, and Daniel Gonzalez, along with very special guest Lenny Castro (who added so much!). I had the vehicle, they provided the magic, and I was along for the ride. For me, these musicians made the recording come alive!

Special thanks to Mike Hurzon who stepped in on post-production and assumed the deserved role as full co-producer on the record. He and the great engineer Chris Sulit of Trading 8s Recording Studio took an inspired session of music making made possible by Kent Heckman at a wonderfully comfortable Red Rock Recording Studio and made the difference in what you hear: a great sounding recording. Credit also Dave Darlington for a fantastic job of mastering.

Thanks to my musical colleague of more than thirty years, the fantastic pianist and educator Kirk Reese, for his compassionate help with certain chord voicings on the tunes on this record.

Special thanks to Jack Frisch; friend, confidant, advisor all along the way these last 15 years; extraordinary graphic artist, who did an excellent job designing this package, his fifth consecutive project of mine.

Early Reviews:

“Dave's work on saxophone immediately grabs us, creating an alluring atmosphere and taking us in some interesting directions. His saxophone creates a world I want to check out, want to live in for a while. It promises some excitement, some unusual characters, some fun. Dave's sax work has a beautiful air of melancholy to it at moments, sometimes reaching out, sometimes turning inward.”

-Michael Doherty’s Music Log

“Dave Wilson has chosen to rearrange, take apart, and put back together hits by Glen Campbell, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne.  With a piano trio behind him, and remembering the lessons taught to him by the legendary sax man Joe Lovano, songs like “Wichita Lineman,” “Fire” and “The Fool On The Hill” never sounded like this.”

-The Jersey Sound by Mike Greenblatt

“A stylistically varied journey, which ventures from whimsical and barn-burning off-kilter originals to sensual slow burning gems. Wilson’s set of originals and crafty, dynamics-filled re-imaginings of renowned and obscurities by some of the 60’s and 70’s premiere songwriters feature a fresh, vibrant quartet.”

-JW Vibe by Jonathan Widran

“On When Even Goes East, the ever-inventive Dave Wilson leads his quartet through a thoughtful blend of originals and reimagined pop tunes, shaping an experience that feels both familiar and freshly personal. Wilson’s tenor and soprano saxophones deliver lyrical depth and an exploratory edge… a recording worthy of repeated listening.”

-The Jazz Page by D. Glenn Daniels

“There is no doubt that Dave Wilson, both as a saxophonist and as a composer, is an exceptionally gifted musician. From the very first bars, the listener is immediately won over by the clarity, intelligence, and personality of his writing. Wilson’s compositional voice is confident and distinctive, marked by a strong melodic sense and an understated sophistication that rewards close listening.”
