Album Description
VITAL WEEKLY. (NL) :
Massimo Berizzi has a background in 70s rock, blues, and electric jazz, and became gradually influenced by electronic and experimental music. Like Monti he released one other solo album named ‘What Remains In A Breath’ (2009). And like Monti he is into ambient like music but more in connection with jazz and not folk as in the case of Monti. For his new solo album Monti assists on bass, African and jamaican percussion and keyboards, and Norvegian artist Oddrun Eikli adds some remarkable angelic vocals, in several pieces as for example ‘Norske Vidder’. Berizzi himself plays trumpet, keyboards, electric guitar, voice and electronics. His music inevitably brings Jon Hassell to mind, and also a trumpet player like Arve Henriksen. Sensitive, delicate music with fine combinations and arrangements of instruments and sounds (...)
ONDAROCK (Italy): Massimo Berizzi, trumpeter born in Treviso in 1958, comes from the collective Unfolk by Alessandro Monti. "Spirali" is the first work of this clever solo musician, who proves to be not just a supporting actor (or "session musician") of this excellent ensemble directed by Alessandro Monti, but an author capable of speaking its own language.Music is very close to the jazztronica and the "music of the Fourth World": memories of Jon Hassell can be found in all fifteen tracks of the CD . There are also references to jazz chamber of the first ECM productions, and also echoes of American acoustic ensembles Night Ark and Ancient Future. Its very important to underline the ecstatic minimalism of "Norske vidder", "Lost" and "I Was", the intimacy of new-age "My Time With You" and layers of guitar feedback that characterize "Lighthouse Blues". The beautiful exotic voice of Oddrun Eikli embellishes the tender prayers of "Dune", "In The Air" and "Moving Lightly In A Dream," that flow straight to the heart. And at the end, the stylistic palette of Berizzi paints the Middle Eastern dance of "Danse La Terre" and live-electronics of the title track and "A Different Day".Worth mentioning as well the beautiful and minimalist design on the cover. A disc of absolute fascination.
