On Set Me Free, trumpeter/composer Sean Gibbs boldly enters a new sphere, writing lyrics for the first time. Featuring renowned vocalist Frida Touray alongside Sean’s 17-piece big band, the EP augments Sean’s roots in the jazz tradition with a diverse range of influences from Motown through to blues and folk singer-songwriters. Recorded at AIR Studios and mastered at Abbey Road, these exciting new songs have been captured in exceptional quality.
The songwriting process was liberating for Sean. He tackles subject matters of relationship strains and disillusionment, as well as unbridled joy and love. The music reflects this with a full orchestral range of colours and textures alongside infectious rhythm section grooves. Set Me Free feels like the music Sean has always wanted to make, an EP brimming with honesty that’s straight from the heart.
