Album Description
Multi-Instrumentalist Carl Clements explores his deep roots in jazz, North Indian, and Latin American music on his album Retrospective, which features nine of of his original compositions that blend and flow through various genres, drawing on elements of swing, Latin jazz, and North Indian classical music, among other inspirations, to create a unique synthesis. While all of the compositions on the album are by Clements, the music is the product of his collaborations with a first-rate group of musicians based in Europe who also play together in their own group The Real Jazz Trio. The trio consists of pianist Jean-Yves Jung, bassist Johannes Schaedlich, and drummer Jens Biehl. While each of these musicians is a powerful musical voice in his own right, their long collaboration is even greater than the sum of its parts. The title Retropective is an acknowledgement of the body of work these musicians have performed together during the last fifteen years, both older and recent compositions.
