trumpetAlbum Description
Eric Vloeimans and Will Holshouser's third album showcases the warmth, breadth and depth of this duo: tuneful yet surprising original compositions, virtuoso improvising and an eclectic range of influences. The blend of two wind instruments -- trumpet and accordion -- creates both a unity and a wide palette of textures. At times sounding like folk, jazz, or even classical music, Eric and Will's music is hard to categorize, but reaches out to the listener.
Highlights include Eric's meditative "Shinrin-Yoku" (a Japanese term for "forest bath" or immersing oneself in nature), "Julien" (a melody inspired by French singer Julien Clerc, refracted through Balkan meters), and joyful "Danse Pour Les Enfants," and Will's plangent, hymn-like "Requiem in Spring," "Nocturnal" (a mysterious vibe in a South American chamamé rhythm), and extended romp "The Open Road."
Eric Vloeimans is one of the best-known musicians in the Netherlands and has won several Edison prizes, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammy, for his recordings. Will Holshouser is a veteran of the New York scene and one of the most in-demand accordionists in the US. Having worked together since 2018, in spring 2026 the duo played a 29-concert tour of the Netherlands.
