Blue Summers

A British contemporary jazz composer incorporating various genres and world music influences.

About Me

Blue started life as a blues guitarist but by his late teens had moved on to jazz, and switched to alto sax and bass clarinet. Like most British jazz musician he relied on daytime jobs to support his music, and when that took him off around the world (especially the Far East) the wind synth became his main instrument for performing live. Blue’s exposure to Chinese, Indian and Indonesian music began to influence his composing style. Synthesisers became his main medium for composing and recording, using a mixture of sampled real instruments and synthesised sounds. Recent albums have been an eclectic mix of jazz, world, classical and electro styles which make them hard to categorise, yet appreciated by a wide audience.

My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to modern jazz at North London’s Fishmongers Arms. I used to go each week as a schoolboy, to see bands like the original Fleetwood Mac, but upstairs was a jazz club. One week I ventured up there. A band called Nucleus were playing. Their bass player couldn’t make it, so we had to put up with a stand in - some guy called Jack Bruce. I was hooked.
