I came to Jazz after rejecting the pop music of the 1980s - just in time for the CD reissue boom.
About Me
While Jazz was the focus of my music listening from about 1988 on, I became an amateur researcher when in late 2019 I began a seemingly simple project: To acquire all known recordings of tenor saxophonist Percy France. That ultimately became a deep dive into the Leonard Gaskin Papers held by the Smithsonian, as well as the recordings bequeathed by Phil Schaap to Vanderbilt, and countless conversations on social media with musicians who worked with and knew France. This culminated in the creation of a website dedicated to documenting Percy France's career, as well as aiding in the creation of two radio programs dedicated to his music.
