Sugartime Trio

Established in 2016, Sugartime Trio is a dynamic Seattle-based female jazz/pop ensemble celebrated for their tight three-part harmonies, sizzling swing, and lush ballads. Originally formed as a tribute to the The McGuire Sisters in collaboration with the Purple Phoenix Orchestra, the group quickly expanded its repertoire to include music inspired by the The Andrews Sisters, the The Boswell Sisters, along with original arrangements uniquely crafted for Sugartime Trio.

Blending timeless classics from the 1930s with contemporary favorites, the trio (Kim Maguire, Meg McLynn, & Caitlin Frances) delivers a distinctive vocal sound paired with charismatic stage presence and polished musicianship. Their remarkably unique vocal blend and vibrant performances bring both nostalgia and fresh energy to every stage they grace.

In 2024, Phil Demaree became the group’s Musical Director, helping shape and elevate the ensemble’s evolving sound. Keyboardist Leran Ralphey joined the group after seeing Sugartime Trio perform at The Triple Door in 2024, while drummer Chris Monroe has served as the trio’s lead drummer for more than six years. Together with their instrumental collaborators, the ensemble affectionately refers to their backing band as “The Mighty Few.”

In 2025, Phil Demaree wrote original charts for the Critical Mass Big Band to accompany Sugartime Trio, expanding the group’s sound into a full-scale big band experience. In 2026, Sugartime Trio broadened the ensemble by adding four additional vocalists, creating even more opportunities for collaboration, creativity, and an active performance schedule. Claudine Mboligikpelani Nako and Sofia Emanuel soar on the top harmonies, Heather Gonio anchors the middle voices, and Kathy Demaree brings her signature rich alto sound to the ensemble.

Sugartime Trio offers flexible performance options, appearing with a backing jazz trio, an eight-piece orchestra, or a full sixteen-piece big band ensemble. Whether performing in an intimate venue or on a grand stage, they bring sophistication, energy, and unforgettable entertainment to every event.

These folks are all actors and performers in other kinds of theatrical venues with long resumes on local stages. They clearly like performing this way and also clearly get along well and like each other. That's an important element that emanates into the audience and creates that great atmosphere where the audience can sit back and sink into the music. Find them for sweet harmonies and song-lickin' goodness.
