Rob McGilton
Rob McGilton has worn a variety of hats in his long, music-centered life.
As a singer-songwriter he released “My Undivided Attention,” a 2025 album of jazz-pop songs produced by Portland pianist Randy Porter, a two-time Grammy nominee. He and Porter co-arranged the album.
He also wrote script, music and lyrics for a musical, “The Goshen Country Club.”
As a concert promoter he worked with Dave Frishberg, Mark O’Connor, Kenny G, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Mann, and the big jazz bands of Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and Thad Jones/Mel Lewis.
In classical music he produced four seasons of Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in Seattle and two series for Seattle Classic Guitar Society. He also co-promoted three concerts by French flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal.
For two decades he ran his own PR firm and worked as a freelance writer. He also taught classes and led creativity workshops for the University of Washington, The Boeing Co., The Seattle Times, and many other groups
As a pianist, he played steady solo gigs at various restaurants and watering holes in Seattle and Bellevue, and casual dates at dozens of hotels, country clubs, and wedding venues in the area. At some of these events, people actually listened to the music.
