Mats Skimmelå opens a musical window onto warmth, introspection, and quiet confidence with “Something.” Constructed as a cool Bossa Nova, the song has the feel of an elderly master revisiting his very first tune, this time with decades of growth, patience, and living stitched into every note.

“Something” is a gentle invitation into whatever daydream you have time for. The rhythm glows like a stroll down Copacabana, where the sunlight bounces off the concrete and the air crackles with possibility.  The great Swedish saxophonist Johan Pihlström is there too, and his playing adds a bit of warmth and breath to the arrangement, filling in some space around that laid-back groove without ever smothering it. As a group, the musicians create space for conversation. 

Mats Skimmelå's path from the early years in Butorp, Deje, through the discovery of harmony in guitar chords, and finally back to the piano, “Something” becomes another timeless Bossa Nova moment. It’s introspective, sunny, and deeply human, and it shows that some songs only get better with time.
