Emma Giulia
Emma Giulia (Paris, 1999) is a French guitarist and composer. Coming from a
multicultural family — French with Polish-Jewish roots on her father’s side and Italian on
her mother’s — she grew up surrounded by artistic and cultural diversity.
At 14, she discovered jazz through Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, and Pat Metheny, later
diving into Charles Mingus, whose music sparked her interest in composition and
arrangement. Alongside jazz, her references expanded to Brazilian music (Tim Bernardes,
Ana Frango Electrico), alternative rock (Rubblebucket, St Vincent) and French chanson
(Rita Mitsouko, Leonie Pernet, PR2B), elements that continue to shape her approach
today.
After studying and performing in Paris with musicians such as Jeremy Hababou and
Romain Pilon, Emma moved to the Netherlands in 2020 to join the Conservatorium van
Amsterdam. There, she studied jazz guitar and also took part in songwriting and ensemble
classes with Tineke Postma, Jesse Van Ruller, Jose James, and Taali.
In 2021 she founded her own ensemble with fellow international musicians from the Conservatory: Tijs
Klaassen (double bass, Netherlands), Federica Lorusso (piano, Italy), Chen Har Even
(drums, Israel), Lucas Santana (flute, Latvia), and Meeliann Kosk (vocals, Estonia).
Her work gained recognition in 2024, when she was selected for WIZZ – Women in Jazz, a
program by Anne Paceo, Les Gemeaux, and Jazz sous les Pommiers Festival, which
included concerts in France by October 2024. In 2025 she was one of the winners of the
Made in New York Jazz Competition, performing at Neidorff-Karpati Hall with Randy
Brecker
Her debut album UNE QUESTION D'ENFANT was released in June 2025 by Dutch label
Zennez Records (Integral/PIAS). It presents her work as both guitarist and composer and
reflects her ongoing exploration of risk-taking, resilience, and creative freedom.
Emma is now preparing her second album 'EUPHORIA MUNDIS' planned to be recorded
at the end of 2026 and showing her work as a songwriter and composer in a genre closer
to alternative rock (Rubblebucket, St Vincent), french chanson (Rita Mitsouko, Léonie Pernet), and brazilian influences (Milton Nascimento, Ana Frango Electrico).
