Song of the Day
Title of the song: Aqui, Oh! [feat. Flora Purim & Airto Moreira]
Artist: Ricardo Bacelar
The brilliant Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and singer Ricardo Bacelar joins forces with two Grammy-nominee living legends of the contemporary jazz -- Flora Purim and Airto Moreira -- for a stunning rendition of "Aqui, Oh!", written by the great guitarist Toninho Horta.
Airto, awarded as a NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) Jazz Master now in April 2026, is regarded as the most important and influential percussionist in the history of jazz, having recorded iconic albums as a leader (for CTI, Artista and Warner) as well as a sideman with Miles Davis, Chick Corea (as a founding member of the original Return To Forever), Carlos Santana, George Benson, Freddie Hubbard, Eumir Deodato, Joni Mitchell and many more.
On her turn, Flora Purim was acclaimed as the most innovative jazz singer of the 1970s, being voted "best female singer of the world" by DownBeat magazine Readers Poll for five consecutive years (1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978). Besides a series of best-selling solo albums for Milestone, Warner and Concord labels, she collaborated with Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Gil Evans, George Duke, Joe Sample, Mickey Hart, Duke Pearson and Stan Getz, among others. Purim recently got her third Grammy nomination for the "If You Will" album, in 2022.
"Aqui, Oh!" is being released worldwide by Jasmin Music, along with a haunting video filmed during the sessions, also available here on All About Jazz's "Featured Jazz Video" section.
The single plus two upcoming albums by Flora Purim and Airto Moreira -- scheduled for 2026 release -- are produced by Ricardo Bacelar, alongside a documentary movie directed by the award-winning filmmaker Jom Tob Azulay, which captures behind-the-scenes footage of the recordings at Bacelar's state-of-the-art Jasmin Studios, in Fortaleza, Brazil.
